Montgomery Township can be difficult to find on maps, which tend to show the names of its postal districts (Belle Mead, Blawenburg, Princeton, Skillman), and historic villages (Bridgepoint, Dutchtown, Harlingen). At reorganizational meetings every January, the committee chooses one of its five members to serve as Mayor for the year, and another to serve as Deputy Mayor. Montgomery is one of 21 municipalities in Somerset County and is governed by a five-member Township Committee, whose members are elected to three-year terms on a staggered basis.
